Abstract

Optimization of free-flying times between two consecutive stages to enhance the overall range of three-stage solid ballistic missile conceptual design is presented herein. Free-flying time is of great importance in enhancing final range of missile. For a given optimized mass of vehicle, the range is maximized by considering different free-flying times between first stage burn-out and second stage ignition as well as between second stage burn-out and third stage ignition. Mathematical modeling is performed in SIMULINK. Genetic Algorithm is used as optimizer to get the optimum settings of free-flying times for maximum range. Various schemes are developed, leading to optimal trajectory of the vehicle for maximum range.
